Achieve Athletes

Mark Cook

Currently live in:

Greenbrae, CA

Achieve athlete since:

November 2013

Top accomplishments and/or results since being an Achieve athlete are:

N/A – no races yet

The best part about being an Achieve athlete is:

Just started working together.

The aspect I like most about cycling and/or racing is:

Cycling is the closest thing to self-powered flight there is and you can do it everyday. The feel of gliding through turns solo or in a fast paceline. Applying power and feeling the response. Bridging with a small group. Shattering a group with a hard pace up hill. How you feel after a ride and the rest of the day. The camaraderie. The culture. The beauty.

My favourite bike is:

I’m partial to my beach cruiser but my favorite bike was my Lemond Zurich that I bought the day after 9/11 when I realized how short life was.

The cycling/sporting accomplishment I’m most proud of is:

I have played lots of sports but I am most proud of being able to ride a bike the way I do at age 51. Introducing my son to the sport is up there too.

If I could be one animal I would be a:

A dolphin in Hawaii…except I’d still want to stay in a beach house at night.

Of the following three facts, two are true and one is false:

I have a twin sister.
My wife and I met on an airplane.
The newspaper said I had a 30 inch vertical leap.

My goals for the 2014 season include:

Stay with the pack in Cat 5 masters races through big climbs.
Improve climbing and descending skills
Stay with my son at least to the bottom of Pantoll on Col du Pantoll rides
